Children's judgements about pain at age 8-10 years: do extremely low birthweight (< or = 1000 g) children differ from full birthweight peers?
Article Abstract:
A study on the perception of pain of eight to ten-year old children who experienced prolonged pain during infancy was conducted. The study involved 47 children with reported extremely low birthweights (ELBW) and 37 who had full birthweights (FBW). The results indicate that both ELBW and FBW children consider pain caused by activities of daily living and recreation as more aversive than that which is medical in nature. However, ELBW children perceived greater intensity for pain related to the medical setting than do FBW children. Varying response suggests a need for further studies.

Non-verbal cognitive development and language impairment
Article Abstract:
A survey was conducted with the help of data from a long-term follow-up study of specific language impairment (SLI) to analyze the use of IQ criteria in clinical diagnosis. The implications are discussed in relation to the dynamic development of systems along with the possible cognitive mechanisms such as working memory that might interact with language to create an SLI profile.
